What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of complete concentration and relaxation. Unlike sleep, you are aware of your surroundings and in control at all times. We all experience trance quite naturally when we daydream or drift off or when we're lying in bed in that enjoyable state between sleep and waking.

What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?

Simply put, it is using hypnosis in a therapeutic way to gain relief from a variety of symptoms or for relaxation purposes. You can easily learn how to induce your own trance and use it in ways that benefit you.

Can anybody be hypnotised?

Yes, only if they are willing to be. Nobody can be made to do anything against their will. You are in control at all times and have the choice to go as deeply into trance as you like. As you identify your personal goals, the therapy is shaped for your individual needs.

What is EFT?

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques, it involves tapping on recognised acupressure points whilst tuning into your physiological/emotional issue.

How does it work?

Hypnotherapy works with the unconscious to access your own inner resources. It helps you to relax, therapeutic in itself as stress is a major contributor to almost every symptom. EFT balances the disruption in our energy system that causes negative emotions and physical pain. Likewise it aids relaxation which can only be a good thing. A good therapist will teach you self-hypnosis and or EFT in order to help you to help yourself.

Is it safe?

With both therapies, you are always in control. Imagine it as the therapist as navigator with you as the driver. The therapist can give you directions on where to go, but ultimately you are in control of the steering wheel, in fact you've even provided the map!

Are there any side effects?

Both these methods are safe and natural and have been around for thousands of years. Sometimes talking about deep-rooted memories may seem emotionally painful, but this is natural. As I teach the techniques, you will always be equipped to deal with anything that comes up for you.

Will I remember everything?

Just like when you've had a conversation with someone, your unconscious will remember everything that is relevant for you.

What does hypnosis feel like?

The experience is different for each person. Some people feel very light as if they’ve had a massage, others feel deeply relaxed. It can also change over time. As you become more used to the experience, you'll find that you go into trance more quickly and deeply. It really is different for everyone. The best way to find out is to try it!

How many sessions do I need?

It depends on the reason for your visit. Smoking cessation is 1 two hour session, with an additional back up session of an hour. Sessions for everything else last from 60 - 90 minutes. The first session involves taking a detailed case history, clients usually attend weekly or fortnightly. There is an expectation that between sessions you will work on your own guided healing. It is not an open-ended treatment and unlike counselling does not involve seeing a therapist for years. Therapy is guided by you, all sessions are goal directed, you'll know when your goal has been achieved.

Why see a therapist?

Have you ever heard the expression about not being able to see the wood for the trees. Sometimes when you're experiencing a problem it can feel overwhelming and difficult to see a way out. Well-meaning friends and family may be on hand with advice, but sometimes this can be even more confusing. A good therapist will be able to help you gain an objective view and guide you towards your resourceful side. Ultimately the work comes from you, but a good therapist will show you the path.
